General description: We will spend most of the month leading discussions on sermons, and close with a discussion about the church service as a whole. We'll go through how to come up with topics, develop them, and how to make them meaningful for the congregation, based on a workshop program from Rev. Laura Horton-Ludwig of the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Stockton. Discussions should be beneficial for all, not just those who want to give sermons. During the month, we will discuss what kinds of sermons people want to hear or deliver, as well as what the congregation likes about the sermons they've heard in the past, or would like to see more of, in future sermons. Our goal is for everyone to come away feeling like they can conceive of, create, and deliver meaningful services.
July 5th
Title "What makes a good sermon?"
Description: We will address the questions: What makes a sermon, a sermon? How does a sermon differ from other kinds of speeches or writings? What makes a sermon meaningful, and memorable? What kinds of topics would we like to see in our UU church?
